Beyond The Medical
Model: A Resident
Centered Approach To
Dementia Care


This two day workshop will provide
participants with "best practice" information
concerning the physical, psychosocial and
behavioral needs of individuals with dementia.
The course will also provide participants with
skills and abilities which can be immediately
applied to practice to enhance the care of
individuals with dementia.

Faculty:

KEITH S. SAVELL, Ph.D., CTRS
Dr. Keith Savell is a dementia care
specialist. He has held faculty appointments
at Rutgers University, San Jose State
University, and San Francisco State
University.
He is the Executive Director of Geriatric
Healthcare Consultants - a company which
specializes in enhancing the quality of life of
residents in long term care (skilled nursing)
facilities and Dedicated Dementia
(Alzheimer's)Care Units.
Dr. Savell has been a long term care
consultant for the past 15 years. He and his
colleagues in Geriatric Healthcare
Consultants provide activity, therapeutic
recreation, social service and dementia care
consultation to over 150 nursing homes
throughout California, Arizona, Washington
and Hawaii.
Dr. Savell is a frequent speaker at
international, national, regional and state
conferences. He has publications within the
areas of gerontology, self-efficacy, self-
determination and psychological well-being,
clinical assessment as well as collaborative
research methodologies.
