Geriatric Healthcare Consultants LLC, provides comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation, Activity, Social Service and Dementia Care consultation services to Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Facilities throughout the United States and Hawaiian Islands. G.H.C. consultants also provide Behavior Management support to facilities seeking to develop resident centered approaches to delirium and dementia based behaviors.
Since 1990, G.H.C. has experienced continued growth. We are today the largest consulting group of our kind, supporting several hundred nursing facilities throughout the United States. Our success as a consulting group lies in our understanding of “best practice” approaches to meeting the psycho-social needs of residents – and our ability to integrate all elements of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Inherent in this mission is the consultant role as trainer, educator, advocate, motivator and liaison for Department Heads and Administrators within the facilities served.
In addition to enhancing the quality of resident life through best practice delivery of Therapeutic Recreation/Activity, Social Service and Dementia Care, G.H.C. consultants successfully assist our clients through state and federal surveys – largely deficiency free!. Our content expertise also enables us to provide numerous training and certification programs, and we have certified hundreds of health care providers as Dementia Care Specialists following completion of the Dementia Care training program. G.H.C. consultants have also been involved in the training of federal and state surveyors as well as JCAHO accreditation team members.
G.H.C. was founded by Dr. Keith Savell. Dr. Savell received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois. He has held faculty appointments at Rutgers University, San Jose State University, and San Francisco State University. He is the Executive Director of Geriatric Healthcare Consultants, LLC - a company providing dementia care, social service and therapeutic recreation consultation to skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Savell also directs the Behavior Management Response Team – which assists skilled nursing facilities in their efforts to reduce and resolve acute dementia based behavior problems among residents. As a dementia care specialist, Dr. Savell also provides Dementia care training, environmental evaluation and consulting support to skilled nursing facilities and Alzheimer’s care units. Dr. Savell has delivered multiple presentations at international, national, regional, state and local conferences. He has numerous publications within the areas of psychosocial assessment, gerontology, self-efficacy, self determination and psychological well-being, as well as collaborative research methodologies. Dr. Savell has also provided expert witness testimony within the nursing home industry.
